Talkboy is a handheld voice recorder. It was launched in 1992 and discontinued in 1999. The toy was originally a prop in the film Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, where 20th Century Fox asked Tiger Electronics to design and build the prop. It was not intended to be released as a toy. Many licensed products were released for marketing of the movie, and responding to email requests to buy a Talkboy, they decided to make a toy of it and release it. The original sold moderately. A deluxe version was released in 1993, and was a highly sort-after toy, and sold out in stores in the U.S. It continued to be a best-seller in following holiday shopping seasons.
